Steelcut returns to action at Wolverhampton tomorrow after an enforced short break with a foot infection which flared up at Kempton. Back on his favourite track and surface we are hopeful of a good show.
William Haigh showed his true ability for the first time away from Southwell on Saturday evening when landing the 1m11/2f handicap under an excellent ride from Jim Crowley. The official handicapper is taking no chances with him, raising his rating 6lbs to 83. William will probably have one more race this year either back at Wolverhampton on December 9th or at Dundalk seven days later.
Scribe has his first entry for the partnership at Wolverhampton on Saturday but no decision has yet been made regarding his participation. Most of the William Haigh owners turned up at Southwell last week to see a victory which looked most unlikely at halfway. I do not think we have had unhappy mumbling turn to loud cheers so quickly as when William Haigh came home strongly once the early pacesetters hit a brick wall in the latter stages. A glass was raised to the horse, Alan Swinbank and assistant Bill Haigh when watching the video back in the hospitality lounge.
William is declared at Wolverhampton on saturday and Jim Crowley will ride him for the first time.
We have a new addition in our ranks with three year old Scribe, a son of Montjeu purchased from Ballydoyle at Newmarket recently. He has settled in well and should be ready to run shortly.
Steelcut has had a short break to freshen up and should be back in action at his local track in the next 7-10 days. Tomorrow a few of us will be having a trip to Southwell for an afternoon of fibresand racing. William Haigh returns to the track for the first time since his unlucky 3rd in August and with two his best runs to date being at this track it is hoped he can put in a competitive showing.
Knocker Knowles went away for his holidays but was replaced immediately at the yard with Si Sealy who returned from a summer break.
