David Evans won the first two year old race of the season at Kempton Park with Redair, a nicely bred daughter of Redback. She won in a good time for juveniles and may well bid to follow up in The Brocklesby at Doncaster. It was good to see one of our stables get off to a flying start in a division where they normally hope to pay their way.
Our horses are progressing well and we should start to see a runner or two in early April dependent on ground conditions. William Haigh will probably be the earliest runner with a possible entry at Necastle on Grand National afternoon. Si Sealy will be making a racecourse debut around the same time.
Our stable visit to the Alan Swinbank yard takes place next Tuesday followed by racing at Pontefract.
Steelcut has an entry at Wolverhampton on Wednesday, no decision is yet made on declaration.
We have our first entry for new recruit Steelcut next Thursday at Wolverhampton. He has settled well in the Black Mountains and I am sure he will soon be used to travelling in a horsebox, as myself and David Evans plan to give him plenty of opportunities to pay his way in the spring. He has come to us after a winter break and a couple of decent runs at Wolverhampton. We still have one small share available but hopefully be sorted by early next week. Shout if you want it.
Excellent meeting at Wolverhampton this afternoon to whet our appetite for the summer ahead, oh and we do have that social event at Cheltenham next week to have a look at.
Our open morning at the Swinbank yard is now confirmed as April 5th with afternoon racing at Pontefract to follow. Should be a good day and hopefully we can have as good a turnout as for the Evans/Chepstow day last year.
Our son of Haafhd continues to please and the decision to geld him early looks wise. William Haigh is on course to make his debut in April. Ross Brierley and myself went to watch Fatty Foulkes work on Tuesday, we were pleased with how well he has done since christmas, moves well and shaping up into a racehorse but it was agreed he needs more time to thicken out and put some condition on his big frame.
Hope to see a few of you at Cheltenham on Tuesday or Wednesday.
