Baizically and New Star go off to the Sales in the next week and I am off to the Horses in Training Sale at Newmarket for a couple of days.
We are looking to get involved with younger horses as a general rule, although there may be room for a jumper within our portfolio and as always I will be on the lookout for potential purchases.
Dr Mathias gained a little more racing experience at Wolverhampton last Friday but is still to weak to do himself justice at this stage. He is now off for a holiday at Kinsale Stud for a winter break from racing and time to strengthen up. It is good to see his trainer David Evans continuing to knock in the winners each week and edging nearer to the century on the flat for the calendar year.
Mark Brisbourne reports that The Last Bottle is on target to come back in 4/5 weeks and is pencilling in a racecourse gallop in a couple of weeks at Dunstall Park.
Wolves showed great fight on Saturday to snatch an equaliser in a hard fought local derby with Aston Villa. It is going to be a tough battle to stay up that will almost certainly go to the dying moments of the season, we have to hope that we can knock in more than one goal on a more frequent basis if we are to survive.
Just back from a miserable damp evening at Dunstall Park. It seems to be the only place I can get to at present with my father in hospital about one mile from the course. It does help me to keep on top of the all weather form and do a trackside slot on William Hill Radio which helps me to keep focussed during a difficult period.
Cheltenham starts tomorrow for the season which for me signals the time to start studying the jumpers for the winter, with clocks changing next week there should be a little more time in late afternoon to review the racing of the day. Hopefully Ludlow next Thursday will be my first venture out jumping for the season.
Dr Mathias has an entry at Yarmouth next Tuesday and we will be looking at that race over the next few days before deciding whether to make that journey to the east coast.
We are right in the middle of sales season for racehorses at present, yearlings hitting the headlines at the moment before horses in training get going before the foals and broodmares end the year. As a group we are participating as vendors with three of our older horses New Star , Zennerman and Baizically who have won 9 races for us between them heading for Ascot and Newmarket. Discussions with the owners of each horse and the trainers led to a majority view that we should replace with younger animals for the long term. We will therefore be looking to purchase as wisely as possible for the future.
Good news regarding The Last Bottle, he is continuing to do well in his work and is looking a lot stronger as a four year old. We hope to have him back on the racecourse during November.
